About Iodosorb Antimicrobial Wound Care Gel
Iodosorb ointment is a sterile formulation of cadexomer iodine. When applied to the wound, Iodosorb cleans it by absorbing fluids, removing exudate, pus and debris and forming a gel over the wound surface. As the ointment swells, iodine is released, killing bacteria in the wound.
Key Benefits & Features
- Indicated for use in chronic and infected wounds where bioburden is a barrier to healing
- Absorbs Exudate: Possesses high absorption capacity to help moisture balance. Absorbs up to 7x its own weight of wound exudate
- Disrupts Biofilm: Iodosorb has been shown to physically disrupt mature biofilm by absorbing it into the dressing and reducing the bacterial load within the biofilm
- Reduces Bioburden: Provides broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity (in vitro) for up to 72 hours even when re-challenged daily. More effective in reducing bioburden and infection compared to standard care
- Removes slough, debris and bacteria: Provides rapid and effective desloughing. Debrides wound bed via absorption of excess slough and debris to prepare for effective healing
- Gel changes from brown color to yellow/gray when it’s time for the dressing to be changed
